Woman Killed, Man Injured in I-75 Crash

A 68 year old New York resident was killed early Saturday afternoon when the SUV she was driving veered left on I-75, striking a tree in the median. Evelyn Schleimer, of Bayside, N.Y. was reported dead at the scene. Her passenger, Barry D. Schleimer -70, is also a resident of Bayside, N.Y. Mr. Schleimer was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he was listed in critical condition.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, Evelyn was driving a 2010 Jeep Patriot northbound on I-75 around mile marker 179 in the area of Toledo Blade Blvd. in North Port. For reasons that are not clear, the SUV swerved left into the median striking a tree and spinning around. Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
