As a personal injury attorney, this is a question I hear quite often. Often times, physicians are selected based upon a referral from a friend or another physician. That is an excellent start but should be back-stopped with your own investigation of the physician and his background especially if the physician is going to treat a serious condition. Florida has multiple internet based resources to conduct this investigation. I personally believe the best is the “practitioner profile” available on the Florida Department of Health website. The site has a wealth of information about the background, training and education of Florida physicians, their discipline history, their practice specialty and their available insurance coverage for any medical malpractice claim. It is an excellent tool that should always part of your decision-making process when selecting a doctor.
